Phygital Meta-Archive:
An Immersive Alternate Hong Kong-verse
The exhibition endeavours to reinterpret Hong Kong's past, present, and future through a fusion of virtual and tangible models, VR content, and interactive experiences.
Drawing inspiration from film, mythology, literature, and other domains, students reimagine the city's landscape. Speculative narratives and visual storytelling will transport visitors to alternate realities. Through the imaginative lens of the students, we aim to reassess the trajectory of different timezone and present a novel narrative of Hong Kong, stepping into a realm of hyper-reality.
About TIME
This exhibition explores the fluid concept of time through the integration of immersive technology and phygital interaction, reshaping how audiences perceive and interact with urban spaces, particularly within Hong Kong. Drawing on Whittaker’s idea of time in immersive experiences, the exhibition emphasizes both the objective and subjective sense of time, revealing how the duration of engagement deepens immersion. Visitors will manipulate architectural designs through gesture controls and interactive interfaces, seamlessly blending the physical and digital worlds. By adjusting elements such as lighting and materials, they can experience how time of day or even years of change influence the city’s atmosphere, underscoring the impact of time on spatial narratives. This dynamic interaction allows participants to move fluidly through different moments in the city’s evolution, highlighting the synchronous and asynchronous ways people experience spaces. The exhibition also presents an archive of the “Hong Kong-verse,” offering a deeper exploration of the city’s social and cultural rhythms. Through this immersive journey, audiences uncover the ways time, technology, and architecture intersect, shaping not only physical environments but also how we experience and remember them.
This exhibition is part of the PolyU Design Show 2024.
